더 사우쓰 업무공간 계획의 목표는 대면상호작용(face-to-face interaction)을 활성화시키고 보다 오픈 된 형태의 협업체제를 지원하는 방향의 혁신적인 오피스 디자인을 통해 조직이 지닌 잠재력을 극대화시키는 것이다.
업무공간 내에서의 인간행태를 focus, learn, collaborate, socialize의 네 가지로 나누어 볼 때(2008년 겐슬러 리포트) 본 계획에서는 learn, collaborate, socialize와 같은 공동이용공간의 비율을 높이는 동시에 격식 있는 대규모 회의공간부터 소규모 팀미팅, 우연한 만남이 이루어지는 캐쥬얼한 성격의 라운지 공간까지 다양한 크기와 성격으로 계획하여 구성원들 간의 활발한 상호작용을 유도하였다. 워크스테이션 계획에 있어서도 유연하고 창조적인 업무활동을 위해 조직의 수직구조(hierarchy)가 반영된 배치보다는 경계를 없애고 이합집산이 자유로운 플랫폼 형식을 채택하였다. 또한 간접조명방식의 task light과 반사판을 설치하여 개방형 업무공간 내에서 개인의 업무집중도를 높이고 영역성을 확보하는데 도움이 되도록 하였다.

The main goal for the office planning was to maximize the corporate’s potentiality through innovative office design by revitalizing the face-to-face interaction and supporting more open collaboration.
Based on four main human activities in office; focus, learn, collaborate and socialize (gensler’s report in 2008), we focused more on ‘learn, collaborate and socialize’ which is relatively related to the public collaboration space. We designed various types of spaces ranged from large formal meeting rooms, small team meeting spaces and casual lounge space for accidental meetings so that staffs could have diverse sizes and characteristics of spaces and more active interactions. The workstation layout is based on platform system which follows the idea of corporate’s workspace goal where flexible and integrated collaboration is possible rather than space with organization’s hierarchy applied in desk layouts. The indirect lighting such as task lighting and reflecting plate helps not only to increase the work efficiencies but to staffs feel comfortable in open workspace.
